Music
Playing meditative, cinematic, and introspective music for late night affairs, Okonski is a piano trio originally based in Brooklyn, NY. Formed while working together in Durand Jones and the Indications, Okonski features Steve Okonski on piano, Aaron Frazer on drums, and Michael Isvara Montgomery on bass. Their debut album “Magnolia” was released February 2023 to critical acclaim on Colemine Records. "Via Asheville, NC, the pensive piano jazz stylings of Steve Okonski. File under nocturne. Released earlier this year, Magnolia’s atmospheric impetus initially stemmed from a late night session in the winter of 2020 followed up by a second week of sessions the following summer. All improvised and recorded live to a Tascam 388, the trio’s (pianist Okonski, double bassist Michael Isvara Montgomery and drummer Aaron Frazer) interplay feels both intuitive and effortless." - AQUARIUM DRUNKARD "Okonski's compositions replace the hard-driving rhythmic gestures associated with soul and funk with meditation, allowing the reflective tones of the piano to take over our senses." - Joshua Myers, DOWNBEAT Mae Powell is a musician based in San Francisco.
