With complementary examinations of environment, from Jarvis’s quests to reconnect with a sense of place and redefine the concept of home through her compelling visual art that delves into the interplay of solitude, nostalgia, and self-connection, to Gervacio’s dark romanticism that explores the synergy between flowers and humans, the two solo exhibitions provide compelling food for thought. Jarvis’s new body of work diverges from the emotional portraiture she is renowned for, encompassing medium and large format photographs —significantly marking her expansion into painted textiles and collages, which are a nod to the innocence of youth. A mutated evolution of Gervacio’s signature style, Mind Flowers finds inspiration from 17th Century Dutch Master painting – which often portrayed flowers as main subjects, floating between metaphors of relationships and scientific realism – while crossing over with ‘70s psychedelic aesthetics and ideology.
