Canto de Todes: A Performance and Conversation with Dorian Wood
Details
Dorian Wood performs a newly shaped selection from Canto de Todes, an expansive work first conceived as a 12-hour composition and installation. Chamber classical, folk, torch song and experimental music come together with cello quartet, guitar, layered vocals and audiovisual elements. The piece reflects on music’s role in social change and the history of Wood’s Costa Rican-Nicaraguan family in the United States. After the performance, Wood speaks with scholar Laura Gutiérrez about Latinx performance practices. Visitors may also encounter the work’s second movement as an immersive, multichannel composition in the Central Garden.
